A total makeover of the master bedroom suite in a 1970's California contemporary to a serene escape with an Asian influence and a built in home office space was the request from the homeowner.

An entire wall of shoji screens from Cherry Tree Design was custom made to cover an existing sliding glass door to an outdoor patio, and still allow access by the moving panels. Remaining walls were softened with a beige grass cloth and side window privacy was created with Conrad woven grass shades.

The elegant Swaim master bed was treated with a grayed jade silk duvet and flanked by night tables from Baker's Barbara Barry Collection. In front of the shoji screen is a casual reading chaise from Nancy Corzine covered in a nubby Jim Thompson silk and accented with a contemporary silk patterned pillow. At the opposite end of the room, a custom Nancy Corzine curved desk sits in front of what was previously a typical closet with sliding doors.

Now a newly designed built-in cabinet houses files, computer, fax and total home office with doors and drawers accented with Asian pulls. Opposite the bed is another new creation of built in cabinets to house a flat screen TV and personal belongings with pocket doors and drawers to match the home office built ins.

The bedroom floor is covered in a patterned tone on tone Fabrica carpet that meets the new honed green marble of the dressing area and master bath. To complete the soft elegance the custom vanity was designed to resemble a piece of furniture.
